New facility doubles Platteville Public Library’s square footage and weekly visitors, enables adaptation to changing needs of community
Supreme Structures built a new 22,000 sq ft, two-story public library that doubles the size of the previous facility and significantly expands programming capacity for the Platteville community. Part of a large public-private redevelopment initiative that included a hotel, healthcare clinic and parking, the new building offers bright, flexible, and accessible spaces designed to serve residents of all ages while anchoring downtown revitalization efforts.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Replaces a 1970s facility
- Unique design elements including colored glass window bump-outs, wood-paneled literacy area, and a child-height door High-tech 100-person community meeting room and 12-person conference room available for public rental
- Increased digital capacity with new computers, wireless access points, and collaborative technology
- Weekly visitor count doubled during opening summer compared to the previous location
- Demolition of six existing buildings to and complex site preparation
- Supported by tax-increment financing, WHEDA and Forward Community Investments tax credits, and private development
